Howard Moody’s incredible legacy for public ministry - his model for church - is to act in the world with clarity and courage. Our time in history offers amazing challenge and opportunity to be a crossover point - a strong voice - in the midst of cultural, political and economic diversity. Our goal is to secure financial reserves beyond our traditional funding base and budget to assure Judson’s strong progressive leadership, to strengthen its innovative cultural presence, and to preserve the historic building that makes all these ministries possible.

The Howard Moody Leadership Fund for Public Ministry

While this dedicated congregation underwrites its ongoing parochial work, we also believe it is imperative to nurture, train, and support clergy and lay leaders to counterbalance the voices of fear and injustice now heard so loudly in our country. The Fund ensures Judson’s ability to maintain a leading voice in the ongoing conversations and the fight for justice and reconciliation that must be the role of people of faith.

The Judson Building Campaign Fund
 Judson is a much-used gathering space for diverse groups, students and organizations. To protect this Washington Square landmark building, we must secure and safeguard it. Work planned over the next five years includes complete replacement of the roof, preservation of the wooden window frames around the priceless LaFarge stained glass windows, repointing brick walls and stabilizing the terracotta cornices as well as attention to the wrought-iron fencing. Interior work includes upgrading the elevator and better lighting for the Meeting Room.

Judson Arts
 Judson is building on its legacy as a home for arts programming for the community and the production and development of emerging artists in theater, music, and dance. Judson provides all its arts programs with an uncensored environment to develop and present the artists’ vision. Bailout Theater offers a free home-cooked and restaurant- donated dinner followed by a free music or dance performance; Magic Time is a staged reading of a new play; The Gym at Judson presents fully-mounted performances intended for longer runs. In addition, artists in many media book the Meeting Room for short-run dance, music, film, and visual art productions.

 
Social Justice Programs
Judson develops programs that many mainstream institutions do not. Innovative in its programming, Judson often partners with emerging thinkers, artists and progressive institutions to act in the world with clarity and courage. Current programs that exemplify “church in the world” include immigrant rights and participation in Occupy Faith, the interfaith coalition responding to the spirit and ethical issues of Occupy Wall Street. Our goal is to strengthen current anddeveloping programs with higher levels of funding, forward planning and partnerships with other institutions.
