From Associate Minister Michael Ellick

IIs there another way of living?  Is there such a thing as a love and a security that comes from the inside out?  Have the world’s sages been telling the truth all along?  Well, who knows?  But how would we ever know for sure if we don’t try it out for ourselves?  So I invite you all into the practice of Lent.  It’s not about punishing or berating yourself for our old subroutines, it’s about the satisfaction of a fresh start.  Lent is the question: what does my new life look like?  And when you’ve answered that, push yourself.  Ask, “How can I express my new life in new habits, in new routines, in a new relationship to my community and to God?”  To this end, let me offer you a prayer, and a few general strategies:

O God, show me what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no hand has touched, and what has never occurred to the human mind.

Then,

If they ever say your voice is way off key, let them know that everybody can sing!

And if they ever tell you “you’re marching out of step,” tell them, I march to the beat of a different drum

And in the same way, should you ever get accused of disbelief, lack of faith, or just good old-fashioned blasphemy, remind them, religion was made to serve us, we weren’t made to serve religion.
