Amalgam – NYC Connection is a work in which two performers from Brazil meet in NYC to create work after over two decades of their first collaboration (Hoje é Dia de Rock, José Vicente, Brazil, 2000). The work merges the performers while addressing the body itself as a provisional state — a complex collection of information in the context in which it exists, as well as the subversion of the presumption of solid identities that possess inherent singularities.

The research starts from the knowledge and experience that the subject is not something solid, but in constant change, being created by the actions it performs. Amalgam asserts itself as an emancipatory encounter in which the concepts of gender and movement cannot be restricted to the requirements of the cisheteronorm that forcibly imposes a limited male/female pair. It expands the bodies and the shapes they make with the aspiration of bringing something open and unexpected, even for the performers themselves.
